Watch Order

How Watch Order works

A short guide to what you can do with Watch Order to follow sagas and franchises without getting lost.

Choose how to watch a saga

Each franchise offers several orders: by release date, chronological, grouped by phases or sagas, a curated order with the essentials, and a custom one you build by dragging titles. You can switch orders any time and your progress is kept: what you've watched stays marked.

The progress you see is for the chosen order and, when that order doesn't include the whole franchise, also for the full franchise.

Routes by character and theme

Besides the general order there are routes: short lists with a purpose, such as following a character, a storyline or a theme. They can cross movies and series, and you can follow the ones you like to see them on your home screen.

Get ready for a release

“Get ready for…” tells you what to watch before a release or a specific title, with three levels: the minimum, the recommended or everything before it. It is ideal when a new movie assumes you've seen others first.

Track your progress and what's next

Mark what you watch, rate it, take notes and log when and how you watched it. The home page shows what's next in each franchise, what you're watching and what you dropped, plus upcoming releases. There is also a timeline, a connections map, statistics, achievements and a year in review.

Plan a marathon

Tell the planner how many hours you have per week and which days, pick a franchise, an order or a route, and build a schedule. You can take it to Google Calendar or Apple Calendar with a subscription link.

Watch sagas with other people

In a group, each member marks their own progress at their own pace and everyone sees what's next to watch together; the rest of your progress stays private. You can also share a read-only link with your progress, a route or your custom order.

With Letterboxd, IMDb and Trakt

Watch Order focuses on order and progress inside a saga, and complements the services where you keep your diary or ratings: from each title you can open it on Letterboxd, IMDb or Trakt, and the app can offer to log a movie on Letterboxd when you mark it as watched. You can use both at once.

Offline, on your home screen

Install it from your browser (or with the Account button) and open it like an app. It works offline with what you've already opened and syncs your changes when the network returns. You can get alerts about releases and about something reaching streaming in your region.

Your data

As a guest, everything is stored on your device. With a Google account it syncs and you can have several profiles. You can export your progress or all your data and delete your account at any time. Details are in the privacy policy.
